Your First Visit

On your first visit, your physical therapist will complete a thorough evaluation in order to fully understand your individual case.  We will use these evaluations, along with your physician’s recommendations, to develop the best plan of care for you.

Common Questions:

Q. Do I need a doctor referral for physical therapy?

A. No. Louisiana State Law no longer requires a referral from a doctor for physical therapy treatment.  Direct Access is the law in the state of Louisiana that allows patients to be evaluated and treated by a Physical Therapist without needing a prescription from a doctor. Most insurance companies will reimburse for direct access PT treatments. However, please contact our office or your insurance company if you have any questions.

Q. What should I bring with me?

A. We ask that all patients bring their medical history, photo ID and Insurance Card(s) with them for the first visit. If you have a doctor's referral- please bring that with you OR you can have your doctor's office fax the referral to our office. If you would like to bring any MRI or X-Ray reports- you are welcome to; however, they are not required. If you will be using any types of assistive materials, such as braces or crutches- please bring those with you.

Q.  What clothes should I wear?

A. Although every case is different and ultimately may require different types of clothing, first time patients should wear comfortable clothing. Your therapist will instruct you on clothing for rehab after your initial visit.

Q. How much time should I expect to spend at the clinic on my first visit?

A. Every case is unique; however, you can expect to spend 90 minutes with a therapist for your initial evaluation.
